Ideas To Fundraise At The Relay
Fundraising at the Relay event is a great opportunity to raise some additional money. Doing some team fundraising at your campsite helps to make your Relay fun and entertaining!
Remember, the grounds are open for the public until Midnight and then the teams are there all night long.
Musical Chairs: Chairs and some music. $1 or $2 to play, small prize at the end.
Cake Musical Squares: have several people bring a small cake. Put small squares of paper on the ground….one is a bright colour. For a suggested donation, the people move from square to square.. when the music stops, whomever is on the coloured square wins the cake (or baked goodie). Do this as long as you like, maybe once every 30 min or hour, or until you are out of baked goodies.
Lap Poker, Different types: Decks of cards and small prizes. The participants purchase 1 card for $2 (or whatever you want to charge). For each lap by your campsite, they receive another card. At the end of 5 laps..they have their lap poker hand. The best winning hand at 8pm (with the green cards) , 9pm (with the rainbow cards), 10pm (with the penguin cards) etc wins a small prize. They can play as often as they like at the start of each hour.. ask everyone to bring their cards back… start with a new type of card design for the next hour..and so on.
Jail and Bail: make a mini roped in area or a make shift jail. If you know friends and family are coming to visit a certain person during the relay time, then jail that person and make sure they tell their family and friends they need to come to the Relay to bail them out. The bail is $xxx dollars. You can do this for as many people as you want, and set the bail for whatever you want. Maybe you jail the mayor??
Raffle: make a gift basket full of wonderful items .. do one for men, one for women, one for kids… sell tickets and do the draw at Realy.
Foot and Back Massages: Arrange for a qualified masseuse to donate some time and give foot and back massages through out the night.
T-Shirts: did you have special fun t-shirts made – now is the time to sell some more.
Balloon Pop: Team members collect prizes as well as donate some goods or services as the prizes. Before filling each balloon, put a note inside with the name of the prize. People receive a balloon for a suggested donation, then pop it to find out what they won.
Caricatures: Know a good artists? Offer caricatures at your campsite for a suggested donation.
General Store: Try to get those extra supplies that people forget to bring.. toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper, flashlight, batteries, bug spray, sunscreen, baby wipes.etc. For a suggested donation.. you are in the General Store business.
Glow Gear: When the sun goes down, sell stuff that glows in the dark.
Hole In One: Try to set up a little putting green. For the suggested donation, each person gets 2 or 3 puts. If they get within so many inches of the hole, their name goes in for a draw. If they get a hole in one… they get their name put in twice. Draw for the prize at the end of Relay event.
Nickel toss: Have people try to toss nickels into a jar. They don’t get the nickel back, even if they miss, and it is an easy way to raise some money. Maybe a sticker or something for those that actually get the nickel in the jar. Clean up all the nickels on the ground and put them in the jar as the night goes on, or roll them up to give to someone who hands you a $5 bill. Wait..how does that raise money if they give me $5 and I give them $5 back in nickels? Easy.. they then turn around and throw those $5 of nickels at the jar and you keep them.
Photos With The Stars: Have a team member(S) dress up as Hollywood stars. For a suggested donation, people can have their picture taken with a star and e-mailed to them the next day. (Survivors are free) Great way to create fun Relay memories.
Dress Up Photos: Gather a bunch of fun “dress up props” – cowboy hats, boots, hula skirts, boas, jackets..anything you can think off. For a suggested donation, individuals or groups of friends can get their picture taken (make a back drop with a sheet).; E-mail the picture to them the next day. (Survivors are free). Great way to create fun Relay memories.
Umbrellas For A Cure: calling for rain? Be enterprising and bring umbrellas from the dollar store, or rain ponchos. Sell for a suggested donation.
Green Team: Be the Green Team - Wear recycle hats and signs…. Collect all bottles and pop cans from the other teams and around the Relay…take them to the recycle depot the next day, and drop the extra funds raised at the Canadian Cancer Society Office on Monday.
